A LITTLE MASTER PREVIEW

HOME TOUR / HOMEKEEPING

so, as of this month, we will have lived in our little abode for 6 months now. WOW. seems like just yesterday we moved in. I always feel like when I look around there are numerous loose ends that need to be tied, renos that need to eventually be done or something that needs painting.. ahhh, painting… but, you know, i’m learning that all of this stuff comes in time because lets be real, home renos are expensive, the two of us work (and have a busy three year old) and there’s other stuff i’d like to save my money for in life… i.e. college fund, travels, retirement, etc. we’ve got a lot of work to do to this house, but all good things come in time right?! I keep telling myself that in hopes that it somehow calms my type A personality.

anyway… here’s a before photo of our master (thanks to my mother-in-law for snapping it). this room is actually a really great size, has a wall of closets and a small bath (sink, toilet, standup shower) in it. before it had yellow floral carpet, pink + yellow walls to match and a wall of paneling. gah! definitely not my style. 11931627_10207392392788097_1847012211_n

and the after… IMG_8911IMG_8907IMG_8912IMG_8913IMG_8917IMG_8927IMG_8936IMG_8924

quite different right? we started off by painting everything in the room, ceiling, trim, doors, closets, walls, windows, everything. after everything was painted we ripped up all the carpet (along with the rest of the house) and laid solid 5″ oak hardwood floors. we debated on going a cheaper route with laminate or pergo, but honestly the price difference wasn’t much and we knew that we would return our investment on these floors. plus they will last FOREVER.

aside from replacing the existing light which is temporary (i hate the boob lights), the room is pretty much completed. there’s still a few things i need like a headboard or maybe a platform bed, but i really like the way the room turned out. we were going for a california inspired space and I definitely think we achieved that. we recently rearranged the room due to the window in it being quite drafty. we had the bed underneath it and it just got too cold at night. i don’t mind the current layout. it makes the room feel larger and clean.

so here’s a little breakdown of whats in the space:

the furniture is all thrifted and i love it! all items i scored crazy deals on and look killer in the space, bedding is simple + white with these stripped sheets. the large photo in the room is actually a picture of the three of us that my uber talented friend, katie, took + framebridge did an excellent job framing it. aside from that I decorated the rest of the space with personal items and added some color with this rug from the little rug shop. i’m sure i’ll add a few things with time, but for now! so what do ya think? xo!
