since we finally finished the two “big” projects on our current home to do list, paint + flooring, i’ve started to slowly get this house of ours together. decor makes a house a home + decorating has been such a fun process. i decided to start with the two easiest, least amount of work to do, rooms in the house… our bedrooms. for our master, i really wanted the space to be like a little california desert retreat… the vibe there is incredible + i wanted to fill the space with pops of color, but keep it simple + clean as well. our master isn’t huge, it’s actually a pretty perfect size with a nice layout, a wall of closets + even a bath with a small shower. the focal point of the room is the bed/window area, but I wanted to brighten the other pretty spaces of the room up with nick nacks + art. we have a beautiful set of vintage mid centuryish dressers in the space that I actually picked up on a local yardsale website for PENNIES… so i really wanted something that would complement them nicely.
for this little dresser i decided to put of collection of fun things together, mostly things I already had on had + i dressed the area up with a beautiful print by Jane Wilder from Minted. what i love about Minted is that they offer amazing art pieces by incredibly talented independent artists for really great prices. they even offer they option to frame your art for you + have a ton of really great frames to chose from. all you have to do when ordering is simply pick out your art with your favorite frame option, if you would like one, + they ship it to your door step.
what drew me to this specific piece of art, other than the fact that it’s very deserty… i mean it is a cactus + i LOVE cactuses, is the colors that are in this little piece of art. there are moody shades of blues, greens + even a few pink hues which really brought in some fun color. i love white so naturally i decided to frame the print in a white frame. i didn’t want the wall to be too busy + i liked that the white frame nicely complemented the print.
for the dresser surface i kept the decor simple. i’m a big fan of minimalism so i didn’t want to overcrowd the space. the slab of marble that you see on the dresser is actually just a piece of tile i picked up from the hardware store. it was less than $6 + works perfect as a little “tray”. the rest of the surface is decorated with a lamp, a large stone that jacob’s dad gave to him, a small frame + a plant. plants are always a must!
i kept the remaining part of the wall space simple with a few hats. it serves as decor + a hat rack so it worked nicely. i kept the area simple so the art work would really be the focal point of the wall. it ties everything in so nicely + is such a beautiful piece to look at. you can purchase this piece HERE.
i’m loving how this little space is turning out, it’s my second favorite room in the house! i can’t wait to share the rest of it with you guys! stay tuned and in the meantime be sure to follow me on instagram (@emilyloeffelman) to stay up to date on the latest happenings!
